North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue to expand Community Paramedicine program with $50,000 grant from the Highmark Foundation

North Huntingdon, Pa. (Aug. 28, 2017) —North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue (NHEMS/R) has been awarded a generous $50,000 grant from the Highmark Foundation to expand its Community Paramedicine program.
Since 2015, the NHEMS/R Community Paramedicine program has been a no-cost service to the North Huntingdon community, providing non-emergent wellness checks, disease and medication education, and environmental safety equipment to its clients.
Through the grant, NHEMS/R will hire a program manager to oversee program operation, purchase much-needed examination equipment and enroll a greater number of clients into the program. This will increase the ability for clients to live safely in their homes for a longer period of time.
"We would like to thank the Highmark Foundation's board of directors. We look forward to a successful program. We believe that giving residents the ability to stay safely in their homes is a wonderful gift," said North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue Executive Director Shane Spielvogle.
"We are pleased to support North Huntingdon EMS/Rescue through this grant to help expand its Community Paramedicine program," said Highmark Foundation President Yvonne Cook. "Not only does the program allow residents to remain safely in their homes while reducing the long-term cost and duplication of services and resources, it also demonstrates new and sustainable ways to solve health problems."
