Highmark West Virginia fund supports initiatives improving West Virginia communities with grants focused on oral, community, and family health

Parkersburg, W.Va. (Oct. 28, 2024) — The Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health continues its commitment to improving the lives of West Virginians by awarding grants to organizations that address key health and well-being priorities. In the third quarter of 2024, the Fund allocated grant funding to support critical initiatives in the areas of oral health, community health, and family health.

This round of grants, which brings the total funds committed this year to nearly $1.2 million, supports the following organizations:

  • American Red Cross — Central Appalachia Region
  • Amputee Center Inc.
  • West Virginia United Way Agencies (12 statewide)
  • West Virginia Health Right, Inc.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to work with these organizations, whose tireless efforts are making a real difference in the lives of West Virginians," said Cathy McAlister, executive director of the Highmark West Virginia Charitable Fund for Health. "Their ongoing commitment to addressing crucial needs aligns perfectly with the Fund's mission."

Since its launch in 2021, the Charitable Fund has awarded over $6 million in grants to over 100 organizations across the state. These grants have supported programs that address a wide range of critical needs, including behavioral health, social determinants of health (SDoH), substance use disorder, and more.
