Highmark Foundation awards $464,000 in grant funding to 81 schools benefitting Pennsylvania and West Virginia students

July 13, 2023 | PITTSBURGH, Pa.

PITTSBURGH (July 13, 2023) — Officials from the Highmark Foundation today announced the recipients of its 2023-2024 Highmark Foundation School Grants and Supportive Services Health Grants. This is the 11th year for the Highmark Foundation's School Grant and Awards Program, awarding more than $4 million to date to promote healthy school-based programming within Highmark Foundation's service region. The grants program aims to create healthier school environments that result in impactful and sustainable improvements through strategies that meet students' needs.

"The Highmark Foundation's student-focused grants program equips schools with dedicated resources to establish healthier and safer school environments that benefit students' overall health and well-being," said Highmark Foundation President Yvonne Cook. "We are honored to support thousands of students through these grants each year, and we hope the outcomes of these programs help set the students up for successful futures."

In addition to the school grants, the program also offers Supportive Services Health Grants, which are part of a strategy to support economically disadvantaged school districts and high-needs schools with financial assistance to meet basic health requests.

Each application is independently reviewed by the Foundation's technical partners Center for Safe Schools, Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and Women for a Healthy Environment.
